Quality Matters

Our beef is all local. Local feed, straight from our farm, local supplements/minerals and local USDA processing. Rest assured, every aspect of raising your beef is handled with the utmost care.

Buying directly from a rancher ensures you know where your beef is coming from. The same cannot be said for store-bought beef. Having local, ethically sourced beef on hand helps you feel good about what you're putting on the dinner table.

BEST STEAKS AROUND!  Family Roots Farm delivers one of the best steaks and cuts I've ever cooked and they do so with the most sincere compassion for their work and their cattle. Each time I serve steaks from Family Roots Farm my guests and family think I am swapping them out for a steak cooked in a restaurant. The quality of the American Waygu is fantastic. It shows in the marbling before you put them on the grill. No matter how you cook your steaks or roasts, the meat falls apart in your mouth. Making it by far some of the highest quality meat you can get. Not only is FRF's meat some of the best quality cuts you'll ever buy, better yet, the owners and handlers are some of the greatest people you'll ever purchase your meat from. You're going to be happy to know that the meat you're buying is ethically sourced right here in the USA from a family farm that brings traditional values and care back to ranching. It shows in the quality of their service and the care they take in raising their cattle. Truly raised and made with love, there's no way you won't love their cuts. I can't recommend Family Roots Farm enough!

I met Mark T. Smith 42 years ago when I was 16 years old. His father is a farmer and rancher. His mother's father was a farmer. His father's father was a farmer and rancher. His father's maternal grandfather was a farmer and rancher. Now, with children involved in the family farm and ranch, the name Family Roots Farm might be the most fitting name for a business since The Ford Motor Company.

Now Mark and his family are producing Wagyu stock, and their entire farming operation is dedicated to growing the feed for this high-quality beef. When Mark delivered my recent personal meat order, the conversation centered around how he has improved the meat quality since my previous order a year ago.

45 years ago, I started what has proven to be a lifelong dedication to diet and exercise with an emphasis on muscle size and strength training. If the Smith family was producing apple pies and ice cream, the quality would be second to none, but I would not be a customer. Due to the saturated fat content of red meat, for 45 years of my life red meat was an every now and then treat for me that caused feelings of guilt. As much as I loved red meat it was nowhere near a regular part of my diet. Consuming too much saturated fat can contribute to buildup in the arteries, which increases your risk of heart disease and stroke, and it is very detrimental to what I was trying to accomplish with my diet and exercise. In contrast, the profile of Wagyu marbled beef is very beneficial to human health. It can be described as a healthier variety of meat and has the lowest cholesterol level of all meats, including fish and chicken. Wagyu beef has much less saturated fat than other beef and offers several health benefits due to its unique fatty acid profile and nutrient content. Wagyu beef has almost zero effect on total cholesterol. It is rich in monounsaturated fats (MUFA), which are considered heart-healthy dietary fats because they can lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol while increasing high-density lipoproteins (HDL); thus, reducing the risk of heart disease. Wagyu also contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), which may contribute to weight loss, improved immune function, and potentially reduced cancer risk, as well as lower risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's and other conditions. Additionally, it's a good source of protein, iron, and zinc.

Nutritionists now recommend supplementing your diet with good sources of monounsaturated fats (MUFA) including olive oil, avocados, nuts, and certain seeds. Due to these benefits, I have tried supplementing my diet with olive oil, but I always stop because it does not work for my digestion. I now approach eating Wagyu beef as a health food/supplement.

As with most things in my life, God made this highest quality of beef available to me at the perfect time, and I can think of nobody better to produce it for me than Mark T. Smith and Family Roots Farm.

After buying meat from the grocery store and having a half cow many times from other suppliers, we are beyond thrilled with Family Roots Farm. The meat is such high quality and each time I use something I am blown away by how tender and amazing it is. The ground beef is the simplest one for recipes, yet you can absolutely tell the difference in quality with the Wagyu beef. With 4 growing kids, putting healthy food I am confident in on our table is important. Knowing that the beef we are using comes from a farm we can trust is a bonus added to the exceptional meat we receive! You will not be disappointed!

Family Roots Farm is hands down one of the best beef products I have tasted in my life. The marbling is well interspersed with all cuts and is in no way greasy. The ground beef they provide is immaculate as well and generated some of the best burgers I have ever made. The beef absolutely tastes noticeably different than the products you can get at any grocery store and any butcher I have been to in the Phoenix area. You can taste the care and meticulous nature of Family Roots team in every bite, the quality of the beef and the taste of the fat itself is much richer. The product you are getting is ethically raised by a group of people who understand and care for their animals as much as they care about the product. You do not have to worry about factory farm-based animal abuse that results in a hormone laden quick-to-market product that most of the nation consumes on a day-to-day basis. If you care about ethics, your own health and good beef: this is the place for you. They were even kind enough to drop it off at my home, which is yet another iteration of the personal and involved nature that drives the business model of this team. My family purchased a quarter cow - my personal favorites from my order were the chuck steaks and the picanha cuts. This is just personal preference, but I will add that their sirloin had the richness and quality of many ribeye steaks I have eaten. All in all, I will be back for more shortly.
